Dear Bishop Neary,
I am writing as a retired employee of St. Mary’s School in Alexandria, MN and as a widow who is currently receiving pension benefits through Christian Brother’s Pension Plan. I served in Catholic education for many years and relied on these benefits as part of my promised retirement security.
I am deeply concerned to learn that these pension benefits may be reduced or eliminated. As a retiree, this income is essential to my financial stability, and at this stage of life there is no realistic way to replace it. The uncertainty has caused significant hardship and anxiety.
I respectfully ask that the Diocese explore options to protect retired employees who are already receiving benefits. I believe this matter reflects our shared Catholic values of justice, stewardship, and care for the vulnerable. I am also respectfully asking if you would consider holding listening sessions for those affected in our school community. Many of us would welcome the opportunity to share our concerns in a spirit of understanding and dialogue.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I continue to keep you and the Diocese in my prayers.
Respectfully
Susan Flanagan
