Dear Bishop Neary,
I am writing to advocate for pensions for laity working for our diocese. My wife worked for 9 years and I worked for 7 years in youth ministry and religious education and I am now retired. We raised our two sons while working to spread the gospel message. Money was tight, but we thought our pension would be there when we needed it.
I attended a listening session this week with 50 other diocesan workers and retirees and I am concerned about the hardship the pension situation is causing. Retirees are living on fixed incomes and rely on our pensions to make ends meet. Now it looks like we will be receiving a fraction of the pension we were promised.
I hope you will offer listening sessions, communication, and do whatever you can to alleviate this hardship. Thank you.
Sincerely
Peter Nord
