Dear Bishop Neary,
I am writing to you with a heavy heart to share the stress and worry that I am feeling over the news about our pension. After dedicating over 22 years to teaching in a Catholic school, a place I love and have poured my life into, it is painful to face the uncertainty about the retirement we have trusted would be there may be gone,
For years, my family and I have accepted a lower salary because we believed in the mission of Catholic education. I believed I was building something meaningful for our students, our church, and our community. But now, the fear of not having a retirement has placed stress on my family. It’s difficult to serve in a place I love when I’m unsure if I can care for my family in the future.
I am asking for your support, leadership, and advocacy in this hard situation. I would like transparency and clarity to find a solution that honors the years of service so many teachers have given to Catholic schools. The future of our schools depends on our ability to care for the people who make them possible.
I am scared for what the future holds for my family, for my colleagues, and the future of Catholic education. Please help find answers that will protect and value the teachers who have given so much to this ministry.
Thank you for listening and for your leadership.
With respect and hope,
Amanda Maus
